About this work

The Arena of the Christian Knight. The knight stands in the middle of his fortress and is assisted by armies under banners of virtuous ideals. The castle is surrounded and besieged by the troops of the devil who have set up their tent in the foreground. These armies fight under the flag of all kinds of sins and vices. In the foreground, new soldiers come from the mouth of hell on the left and right. Emblematic print on the Reformation, theme of ca. 1560.
