About this work
The Rise, Height, and Vanity of the Antichrist, ca. 1560. Twelve small scenes depicting episodes from the life of the Pope. In the center, a larger representation of a standing man with an open belly from which various sins and vices emerge in the form of zodiac signs. Four loose text sheets with explanations of scenes 7-13 (1-6 missing) in Dutch accompany the print. Satirical print on the corruption of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church, ca. 1560.
