About this work
Map of the mouth of the Thames showing the Raid on the Medway, 1667. At the top an inset with the course of the river at London. On the right cherubs hold a cloth with a scene of the Raid on the Medway and the burning of the English warships. At the bottom Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter in a triumphal chariot drawn over the sea by horses and followed by tritons and other sea creatures with the breached chain. In the background Johan or Cornelis de Witt (?) also in a sea chariot. Top left Mars lays down his weapons on the altar of Peace.
