About this work

The church and pride stir up intrigue and unrest. The Roman Catholic church incites the bishops of Münster, Cologne and Strasbourg and Wilhelm Egon von Fürstenberg to war. Central the depiction of the pride of the French king Louis XIV who has more crowns on his head than he can carry. To the right the prosperity of the Republic is viewed with envy. In the background Catholics forge bishop's staves into weapons, to the right the bonds around the world are being loosened. Allegory on the political situation in the Republic in the year 1674. Numbered top right: 2.
