Allegory on the Peace of Ryswick, 1697

Allegory on the ratification of the Peace of Nijmegen on 20 September 1678. Centrally a pillar with Peace, the coats of arms of Spain, France and the Republic, and the portraits in medallions of eight sovereigns. On the right in the foreground the Dutch Maiden, Justice and Prudence drive away War, Envy and Greed. On the left Force drives away Hypocrisy; in the foreground Painting lies defeated. Mercury steps with the book Credit under his arm towards two female personifications of the VOC and WIC. In the background on the left Neptune and on the right a procession of marching war invalids and other victims. Under the print a text sheet is pasted with a description of the scene in 3 columns in Dutch.
