About this work

The Battle of the Zuiderzee, 11 October 1573. Naval battle in which the fleet of the Watergeuzen under the leadership of Cornelis Dirkszoon van Monnickendam defeats the Spanish fleet of Bossu. In the foreground fierce hand-to-hand fighting in the skiffs, behind them the larger ships. Enkhuizen in the distance to the left.
