About this work
Political allegory calling for united action by the Netherlands against the Spanish enemy. On a Roman (or Italian) city square, within an enclosure, a fight takes place between two dogs and a wolf. Around the arena a large group of spectators. In the foreground, a man explains the political interpretation of the event and its meaning. The city is under siege, in the background the besiegers' camp. At the bottom of the print two cartouches with engraved texts of six lines in Dutch and French. Attached under the print a sheet with texts in Dutch, Latin and French.
