About this work

The capture of Breda by the States' army under Maurice, 4 March 1590. Presented in four numbered ovals. Top left (1): the embarkation in the peat barge; top right (2): the peat barge is drawn into the castle; bottom left (3): the troops emerge and engage the occupiers; bottom right (4): arrival of Maurice's troops and the flight of the occupiers. Surrounding this are the coats of arms of the seven provinces, of William of Orange and Maurice, of the Duchy of Brabant, and of the city of Breda. With inscriptions in Latin.
