The Neutralists' Cart, 1603. Satire on Jan Claesz Rolwaghen and the visions and prophecies of Robbert Robbertsz Le Canu. Relates to the separation of the Mennonites in Amsterdam around 1600. Sheet with a crude woodcut at the top of a cart with a jester on the driver's seat; Rolwaghen and Robbert Robbertsen sit at the back. The cart is pulled by a mule and guided by a donkey-driver with a rough whip. Onlookers on the left. In the sky a comet referring to the Leidstar (the house where Le Canu lived) and to Robbertsen's claim that the sun would stand still as proof of the truth of his statements. Below the image five columns with various Dutch songs about the folly of the main figures.
