About this work
March of the Civic Guard of Amsterdam to Zwolle to assist in the defense during the Spanish attack on the city, 26 September 1622. On the left the city, centrally the advancing guardsmen. On the left the Dutch Lion with the coat of arms of Amsterdam. Also included are the allegorical figures of Discord, Envy, Schism in the State and Discord in Religion. At the back stand with long faces Justus Lipsius and Erycius Puteanus. Attached below the image a text sheet with a long poem in 4 columns and at the bottom a list of the various corporal companies of the Amsterdam civic guards with name lists of their officers.
