Battle of the Downs between the Spanish fleet under the command of Antonio de Oquendo and the States fleet under Maarten Harpertsz. Tromp, 21 October 1639. Entirety of two sheets. On the left plate in the foreground, seen in mirror image, the admiral's ship of Tromp the Aemilia next to the Santa Teresa which is on fire. On the right plate with in the foreground a burning ship and boats with crew members, on the right the captured Spanish ships. In the background the English coast between Romney and Margate.
