About this work

Battle of the Downs between the Spanish fleet under the command of Antonio de Oquendo and the States fleet under Maarten Harpertsz. Tromp, 21 October 1639. Left in mirror image the admiral's ship of Tromp the Aemilia (Amelia) next to the Santa Teresa which is on fire. Right in the foreground a burning ship and boats with crew members, on the right the captured Spanish ships. In the background the English coast between Romney and Margate. At the top in the center a cartouche with the title.
