About this work

The Peace of Nijmegen. Centrally the swearing of the oath on the peace treaty between the Republic and France on 10 August 1678. Central representation of the delegates gathered around a table in a hall, with gods and allegorical figures of Peace and Liberty in the clouds. Surrounding this smaller representations of the arrival of the French ambassadors in The Hague on 28 September 1678 and the announcement and celebration of peace in various cities. At the bottom a cartouche with 2 verses of 4 lines.
