About this work

Satirical print on the Lutheran church disputes in Amsterdam between the Dutch (liberal) and the German (orthodox) direction within the Lutheran congregation, which reach a climax in the struggle around the appointment of the preacher Theodorus Dominicus in Amsterdam in 1683. Left view in a church where Dominicus preaches, outside the church the peace wagon has arrived. Later state of a print with in the first state a much more explicit representation in which the opponents of Dominicus were mocked. Below the plate 6 verses of 4 lines.
