About this work

Caricature on the Mechelen moon fire, on the inhabitants of Mechelen who mistakenly believed that the tower of St. Rumbold was on fire, 27 January 1687. Right sitting in which a depiction of this event is presented by a man and a monkey to the president of a court of fools. The president sits on his throne under a large fool's cap, on the wall 14 depictions of other follies in South Netherlandish cities. Around and below the plate a report of the trial with sentence.
