About this work

The French Admiral. Satirical print on the burning of the French and Spanish ships by the Dutch and English after the victory in the naval battle in the bay of Vigo, October 23, 1702. Phaëthon falls with the sun chariot from the sky into the sea. In the caption two verses in French and Dutch. Part of a group of separate satirical prints on Louis XIV during the War of the Spanish Succession, ca. 1701-1713.
