About this work

Allegory on the installation of Prince William V as hereditary stadtholder at eighteen years of age on March 8, 1766. The Dutch Maiden presents the prince with the symbols of power. The prince standing on a podium between personifications of virtues, against a background of tapestries with portraits of his predecessors and fireworks on the occasion of the prince's majority. In the foreground the Dutch Lion, on the right Virtue as Hercules drives Falsehood, Envy, and other vices back into the darkness.
