About this work
The prince with his retinue standing opposite the Dutch Maiden with a lance and liberty cap. In the background a warship. This representation under this number (FMH 4175) was incorrectly interpreted by Muller as an allegory on the majority of Prince William V at eighteen years of age on March 8, 1766, and his installation as stadtholder. It concerns, however, an allegory on the Battle of the Dogger Bank (1781) in which the prince offers his services to the Dutch Maiden (see FMH 4452).
