About this work
Allegory on the founding of the Orangist society de Oprechte Vaderlandsche Sociëteit in Rotterdam, 7 or 18 January 1787. Interior with men sitting around a table, on the walls representations of the Union of Utrecht (1579) and the Synod of Dort (1618-1619). In the foreground Father Time lifts the curtain and reveals images of Religion, Liberty and Hercules slaying the Hydra. In the background the portrait of Prince William V on the wall of an adjacent room. The print includes a text sheet with an explanation.
