About this work

Orangist allegory on the restoration of Stadtholder Willem V in 1787. The Stadtholder, standing on a pedestal, embraces Liberty and receives the oracle leaf (the Bible) from Religion. To the right, the virtues Prudence, Justice and Strength look on approvingly. In the foreground, Envy is defeated by a patriotic hero and the Dutch Lion, on the left in the background the temple of honor and virtue. With inscription in two columns.
