About this work

Allegory on the restoration of peace and freedom in the Netherlands, allowing trade and the merchant fleet to flourish again, 1814. The Dutch Maiden with a liberty spear and cap sitting on a bale of goods, under the Orange tree to which a scroll bears the inscription 'Je Maintiendrai'. To her right the Dutch Lion with a bundle of arrows under its paw. In the background ships at sea.
