About this work

Allegorical tomb monument for Jan van Speyk, 1831. The Dutch Maiden with Dutch flag and national arms mourning at the grave. On the front of the grave, a depiction of the cannon boat of Jan van Speyk jumping into the air on the Scheldt off Antwerp on 5 February 1831. On top of the grave, an urn, olive branch, Military Order of William, and the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
