About this work

Appearance of spirits on the Oudeschans in Amsterdam, on the evening of 8 and 9 October 1833. Along the quay, ghostly white silhouettes of women in long gowns move. In the foreground and on the bridge, the assembled spectators. The 'spirits' were created by some students using magic lantern slides.
