About this work
Satirical print on French plans for an invasion of England, February 1798. A French armed raft sailing under the flags of 'Liberty' and 'Slavery' is being pulled to land by four Englishmen (Whigs: Bedford, Sheridan, Fox and Tierney) with a cable and a windlass, while at the same time a storm (Pitt) with high waves blows the raft away from the coast. On the other side of the Channel at Brest a fiddle-playing devil dancing on a guillotine.
