The departure of the twelve Dutch merchant ships from the port of Portsmouth, after the lifting of the embargo, 2 June 1833. The British embargo had been imposed around November 1832 to pressure the Dutch to hand over the Citadel of Antwerp to Belgium. All Dutch ships in British ports were thereby chained. First plate in a series of three. On one of the warehouses on the right can be read 'Van den Bergh & Son'. At the bottom of the margin the names of the ships. The coat of arms of King William I at the bottom center between the Dutch and English title and dedication.
