About this work
Cartoon on the General Music Festival of the Society for the Promotion of Music in Haarlem, 13–15 June 1850. Centrally, the performance of the new oratorio 'Elias' by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, with the caption 'The auditorium of the Oratorio'. Surrounding this are eight smaller humorous scenes. At the top, a portrait of J.J. Viotta beside a train pulled by a steam locomotive shaped like a drum.
