About this work
Jonah sits on a rock above the city of Nineveh, waiting for God to destroy the city. God has caused a gourd to grow for him so that he can sit in its shade. But the next day the gourd has withered, its leaves hang limp, and Jonah is overcome by the heat. He holds his cloak over his head against the burning sun. Jonah is angry at the plant and at the fact that God did not destroy the city. He speaks about it with God, who appears on the clouds. Below the image a reference in Latin to the Biblical text in Jonah 4. Numbered in the lower right corner: 5.
