About this work
The personification of War (Bellum) stands before various war equipment, a sword in the right hand and a torch in the left. Around her lie weapons. At her feet sits Poverty (Pauperies): a girl in meagre clothing. In the background war is being fought and soldiers are plundering a house. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a series on the cycle of human action.
