About this work

Mayor Adolph Westerwijk of Goes sentenced to death in a conflict with Stadtholder Willem III. The sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. In the depiction, soldiers pull the woman away from the mayor at the moment he is led out of prison, 30 December 1692. Design for a print.
