Hugo Grotius takes leave of his wife Maria van Reigersberch, who had devised the plan for the escape with the book chest, and steps into the book chest, 22 March 1621. Below it a second plate with an allegorical emblem in which Religion and Statecraft rise to heaven. Design for a print.
