About this work
Design drawing for a political cartoon. The Dutch Maiden standing by a very simple gravestone for General Van Heutsz, who died on 11 July 1924. On the left, a man places a bouquet at the grave; on the right, a bowing minister. With a three-line caption. Possibly in connection with the unveiling in 1935 or the commotion surrounding the monument during the war. In the top right corner the inscription 'drawn for the fascist newspaper'.
