About this work
A soldier, full-length, carrying a spear (lance) above his right shoulder, the point directed diagonally towards the ground. His hands far apart to hold the spear. This is the first action for lowering the spear to pass under an overhang. Design for plate 12 in the instructions for handling the spear in the Wapenhandelinghe by J. de Gheyn (1607). Military affairs around 1600. Design for a print.
