About this work

Interior of a presumed Haarlem book and art shop. On the left, behind the counter sits or stands the shopkeeper, with two customers in front of her. Behind the counter shelves with packages of paper and some books with the fore-edge and headbands facing forward, as was customary at that time. To the right of the center a customer in conversation with the shopkeeper. On the wall hang presumably paintings, prints and/or drawings.
