The composition is divided into two planes: in the upper plane, a woman sits under a baldachin and a second woman stands opposite her; in the lower plane, a woman kneels with her left hand before her mouth, while opposite her lies a man dressed in white diagonally across the plane, holding a staff-like object in his right hand. The composition is mounted within a framework of fine border lines, the old edges of which have come loose in places and new strips have been pasted over them; the outer edge is unadorned and runs along the bottom, top, and left side of the composition.
