About this work

After the birth of Jesus, the three Magi – the 'wise men from the East' – followed the star of Bethlehem, visible at the upper right, to find the newborn infant. If you look closely, you will notice that the contours of all the figures have been incised. These thin lines are the remains of the process of tracing, used to transfer the composition onto a copper plate.
