About this work

The painter Bartholomeus Spranger, dressed in a doublet with buttons, above which a wide pleated collar. At the bottom a Latin dedication to Spranger in six lines. Part of the first album of quadruped drawings. First of twelve albums of drawings of animals, birds and plants known around 1600, commissioned by Emperor Rudolf II. With commentary in Dutch, Latin and French.
