About this work

Sketch of two crocodiles by a river, in Egypt. Later handwritten notes in three languages about the subject have been added to the sheet. Part of the seventh album with drawings of reptiles, amphibians and natural history ensembles. Seventh of twelve albums with watercolours of animals, birds and plants known around 1600, made on commission of Emperor Rudolf II. With explanations in Dutch, Latin and French.
