About this work

Yellow-flowering centaury, possibly Centaurea macrocephala. Numbered 146 in the upper right. Name in four languages at the flowers. Part of the second album of drawings of flowers and plants. Ninth of twelve albums of drawings of animals, birds and plants known around 1600, made on commission of Emperor Rudolf II. With commentary in Dutch, Latin and French.
