About this work
That the Historia Naturalis albums were sold only three times in four centuries accounts for the excellent condition of the individual watercolours. The green leaves and white florets of the cauliflower still look incredibly fresh. The draughtsman successfully rendered the structure of the vegetable by using green and brown watercolour and some white highlights.
