About this work
The naked personification of Fortune standing on a pedestal scatters money and symbols of honor and power. A black man has no luck and falls off the pedestal. The spectators on the left profit from her gifts, while those on the right must do without them. In the foreground, a dog threatens a swan. At the pedestal, a lute and another musical instrument.
