About this work

Anthony de Wale (Walaeus), 1573-1639, contra-remonstrant theologian. By David Bailly. Dated 1636. De Wale studied in Leiden with Gomarus, the leader of the later contra-remonstrants. He was a preacher and teacher in Middelburg and from 1619 professor in Leiden. Walaeus actively participated in the Synod of Dordrecht and was summoned by Maurice to The Hague to assist Van Oldenbarnevelt in his final moments.
