About this work

Portrait of Pieter Gerardus van Overstraten (1755-1801). Governor-General (1797-1801). Knee-length, facing right, seated in a chair with the right arm resting on a table and holding a marshal's baton in the right hand, gesturing with the left hand. The facial features modeled after a miniature portrait painted in Batavia by Joseph Gillis. Part of a series of portraits of the Governor-Generals of the former Dutch East Indies.
