About this work
Portrait of Charles I, King of England (1600-49), in an architectural frame with allegorical figures and historical scenes. The king is depicted half-length, next to a winged hourglass with a skull; on both sides festoons with symbols of transience on the left and wealth and power on the right. Above personifications of History, the weeping Justice, and Fame. On the left Faith, on the right Hope. At the bottom left the reigning King Charles I seated on the throne, on the right his beheading in 1649. All scenes accompanied by texts. Pendant of SK-A-3882, portrait of Cromwell.
