About this work
A complex satire on the power struggle in Dutch politics. Prince Maurice (in the middle at the table) ties a bell to the cat: a reference to his reckoning with his political opponents. Around him stand various figures representing the different political factions. To the left: the beheading of his main opponent, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, at the Binnenhof in The Hague.
