About this work
Symbolism is literally at the center here. The woman holds up an orange apple while her husband points with his index finger to her bosom and with his other hand to his own heart. The orange apple has been a symbol of chastity and love since antiquity. The gestures directed at the heart speak for themselves. For there resides love.
