About this work
A typical Dutch winter landscape: on the ice people amuse themselves with skating and sleighs. To the right, eels are being speared in a hole in the ice. <BR /> A group of people plays 'kolf'. This game, played on land and ice, was since the Middle Ages the most popular folk sport of the Netherlands. The goal was to hit the poles of the kolf course with balls and a kind of golf stick.
