About this work

Walnut frame, painted brown-black with gilded moldings. Based on SK-L-6928 for SK-A-4462 (Van Scorel), scaled up. The frame consists of four parts of walnut wood cold-glued together so that the grain runs in the same direction everywhere. The frame was bent after manufacture to follow the curvature of the panel more closely. The frame was primed with a chalk-glue primer and painted with gouache. The moldings are gilded with oil gilding. The gouache is finished with Renaissance wax.
