About this work

The main component of the frame is formed by a hollow ogee-shaped outer edge, decorated with a continuous pattern of stylized leaf scrolls and slightly protruding acanthus leaves at the centers and corners inwards and outwards. The background is hatched with diamond shapes. Inwards follow a flat surface with sand, lying between two gilded steps, an ogee-shaped surface with leafwork and a broad flat inlay ending in a small chamfer indicating the day edge. The outer edge is decorated with a continuous pattern of alternating small and large semi-circular motifs. The inlay is secured with nails in the rebate of the outer profile. The corner joints are cold-locked and nailed and reinforced at the back with triangular blocks.
