About this work

The frame has a convex openwork profile, situated between an equally openwork outer edge and a carved inner edge. The convex profile of the frame is cut in an openwork pattern of repeating sunflowers, thistle-like flowers, and an abstract hatched ornament with volutes on both sides. Diagonally placed, outward-facing acanthus leaves with seed lists accentuate the corners. The outer edge is formed by carved leafy vines and flowers, which are executed larger at the corners and centers. The inner edge consists of a cove on the day side, bordered by a band of curling leafy vines with acanthuses.
