About this work
The painting previously attributed to the Master of Messkirch was removed from his oeuvre by Christian Salm in 1950 and dated to the third quarter of the 16th century. Anna Moraht-Fromm and Hans Westhoff also reject the attribution to the Master of Messkirch and catalogue the Basel work as by the Master of the Basel Christopherus (South German), around 1580.
